Etna (KDKA)-A dozen people were displaced tonight after the scaffolding of a construction project in Etna collapsed.

The police said that the wind was the culprit, and the plastic on the scaffolding had a sail effect and knocked everything down.

Fortunately, there are no reports of injuries, but at least six families have been displaced.

"The wind is too strong, it is shaking back and forth, you hear it creaking, I said something is going to happen," said Leyona, one of the residents.

Scaffolding was scattered on Bridge Street. The scaffolding collapsed three telephone poles, and electricity was cut off in the process.

"You heard the police knock on the door, telling us that we must get out as soon as possible," Leyona said.

The residents are fortunate that they were able to evacuate in time.

"Things are temporary, our lives are eternal, but in fact we may all have to start again," she said.

Another resident said that her apartment was where the scaffold fell, and she was worried about how severe the damage was.

"My whole life has been in that building," Beth said. "The last eight years of my life have been in that building."

"We can't go in until they clean everything up and see if all our things are destroyed, all my Christmas presents are inside," Leyona added.

Authorities said at least six families have now been displaced before the staff assessed and cleaned up the area.

At the same time, Mount Etna police stated that the building is under construction as part of the 51st Street Bridge project, which will be transformed into a technically flexible space after the project is completed.

At present, it is not clear the extent of damage to the affected buildings.

The police said that the staff will conduct an assessment tomorrow and begin cleaning up.

For the rest of the night, Bridge Street will continue to lose power and the Red Cross is helping the displaced.
