ETNA, PA — Scaffolding dropped from one side of a building on Bridge Street in Etna damaged several other buildings on the street.

Bridge Street of Mount Etna. The scaffolding on one side of the building is about to collapse and may hit the building across the street. The wind here is very bad. I will broadcast it live on @WPXI at 6 o'clock in the way we know it. pic.twitter.com/95QmktAlET

The scaffolding hung from the building shortly before 5:30 pm as part of the redevelopment project of Warehouse 51 on Bridge Street, which is being redeveloped as a “high-tech flexible” space that mixes office space and technology companies.

According to a press release from the developer The AM Group, the building was built in 1902.

Shortly before the scaffold collapsed, the road was closed and nearby buildings were evacuated. The American Red Cross was sent to help five displaced families.

Neighbors reported that they heard the scaffolding move when the wind was blowing most of the day. A worker in the building said that the scaffolding was tied to the structure, but it must have been blown away by the wind. They tried to fix the scaffold before it collapsed, but failed because it touched live wires.

AM Group issued a statement late on Saturday night:

"While coordinating remedial measures with our contractors, local government officials, Mount Etna's emergency services and utilities, we believe this will be resolved soon. We thank no one was injured, and thank Etna The excellent work of the Volcano Emergency Response Service, especially the swift and decisive action of the Etna Police Department Chief Rodman. AM Group is committed to solving this problem and is committed to allowing the municipality of Etna to redevelop this project."
