The Ministry of Transportation announced today that construction will begin at 39th Avenue Bike Boulevard in Sunnyside in September.

The installation of the bike avenue will bring significant changes to parts of 39th Avenue and Barnett Avenue in Sunnyside.

The plan includes the conversion of parts of 39th and Barnett Avenues into one-way zones to create space for protected bicycle lanes and other traffic calming measures.

The project was supported by the Community Council 2 in June and was supported by board member Van Bramer.

Advocates of the bike avenue say it will improve traffic safety while providing an important bike link from Jackson Heights to Sunnyside. This is also when Citi Bike is about to expand to Sunnyside.

This avenue is one of the five extensions of the entire city and will be transformed into a bicycle avenue by the end of this year. DOT plans to create a bicycle avenue for each administrative district.

The planning of 39th Avenue is complex and will bring about major changes.

The Department of Transportation will transform 39th Avenue (currently bidirectional) between 45th Street and 47th Street into a one-way street facing west. It will also transform Barnett Avenue between 45th Street and 48th Street into a one-way street running east. Currently, the section of Barnet Avenue is a narrow two-way street.

In addition, the Department of Transportation will turn 39th Avenue from Woodside Avenue to 52nd Street into a one-way zone—westbound.

The Ministry of Transportation plans to add a series of crosswalks and introduce other pedestrian safety features, such as extending curbs to 39th and Barnett Avenues. The agency stated that these changes will reduce speeding and thus make roads safer.

Craig Baerwald, operations manager of DOT's bicycle department, said: "This is all for traffic calm." He showed the plan for the 39th avenue bicycle boulevard through Zoom in June before CB2. "It makes cycling safer, but it also makes walking and driving safer."

The Ministry of Transport stated at the June meeting that the change will not lose parking spaces.

The bicycle avenue concept is a product of the Open Street Plan, which was created in 2020 shortly after the pandemic broke out.

Last year, New York City transformed 39th Avenue (from 45th Street to Woodside Avenue) into an "open street." At present, most of the time the avenue is closed from 8 am to 8 pm.

In September, the New York City Department of Transportation will begin implementing #BikeNYC boulevards and safety improvements at 39th Ave, Barnett Ave and 43rd St in #Queens. This work will:

Now that the new transportation mode is in place, I have to say that this is the stupidest plan implemented by the Ministry of Transportation in the city so far. I can't imagine that the complaints will not come from local residents, who will find themselves driving halfway around the community to go around a block. In particular, the intersection of 50th Street forced westbound traffic to Barnett Avenue and eastbound traffic to 43rd Avenue, which made the local crossing of the community a nightmare. If the city is desperate on Bike Avenue, it should do so on Barnet Avenue and stop traffic at number 39 alone. Remember my words, this won't be true, and the bicycle avenue will disappear in the spring (and Jimmy Van Bramer).

Stopping the hatred obviously does not recognize that he or she is one of the few people in Queens who supports bicycle lanes to take over certain communities, just like they are in Sunnyside Gardens. I got a message from a firefighter who totally agreed that placing them here prevented the department from arriving at the best time. But stopping hatred is the truth of the blind, deaf and dumb Roma that he or she or hey they want to ignore. It's just that I don't need to insult me, it won't be so, it will only confuse the discussion. It is a tool for gutter fighters and intellectually dishonest people. I will not waste any more time on this discussion. When you argue with fools, they will lower to their level and defeat you with experience.

Blackfootlion, you made a lot of assumptions about me and presented yourself as an elder with PhD-level intelligence, and ended up typing here again. If you look out the window at the community you oppose, you will find that you have decisively lost the war. The heartbreaking thing is that you don't want to stop hating your neighbors. However, you are right to argue with the fool, which is why Patricia’s lies are not worth arguing about their merits, because they don’t! It's time to stop. Stop being a bad neighbor. Stop hatred.

Likewise, you use someone's name instead of your own name. Are you dear?

And, please stop your nonsense! You have become boring.

The woman you have been degrading without revealing your identity, coward, has more supporters than you think. They just aren't as colorful as those who have drunk your Koolaide. But they are cheering up now.

During the surviving period of Ada, severe flooding occurred at the intersection of 45th Street and 39th Avenue. A large number of sewers in the basements of nearby residents are reserved. This needs to be redone into any streets as soon as possible.

It sucks. Every time it rains, it is a river.

Anyone who says they see very few people using bike lanes is lying. For people living in Queens, this is the main way to go to the city or other places to work without being affected by the MTA's mismanagement.

I had to ask three people to use the bike lane.

Your words are very harsh. I have not seen enough bicycle traffic nearby to ensure that the main interference is claimed by cyclists as necessary. I live on 39th Avenue and live longer than you for decades, I promise,

Like the comments that imply that FDNY cannot travel in both directions.

Do you know who can't travel as much as you want? Mom, return to PS11 from a 2,000-foot drive. The minivan mother must follow the posted traffic instructions.

The fire truck can be driven in any unnecessary way. In fact, due to the lower traffic volume of usually speeding and reckless private and taxi drivers, fire trucks will pass this avenue better.

Do people think that fire trucks or first responders will see One Way and think that Welp cannot go that way? No, EMS can move in any direction anytime, anywhere.

I think there are many families of civil servants in this administrative district who should know this...

Come on, you are smarter than this.

You are an idiot. The protected bike lane on Skillman has caused severe headaches for emergency vehicles. Moving the parking lane from the sidewalk significantly reduces the traffic lane, which makes it difficult for any long vehicle to turn, especially the FDNY trapezoidal truck. I want you to tell me how fire trucks should reach any block north and east of Woodside Avenue without rushing down No. 39 in the wrong direction east of 52nd Street and risking oncoming traffic The risk of a head-on collision because there is only one lane?

"The minivan mom from PS11" LMAOOOOOOOOOO

The city is definitely losing focus-bicycle lanes, bike lanes, bicycle lanes and MTAs always need money-they are actually receiving billions of government aid, but they still want more money from congestion charging? ? ? I am very satisfied with New York City and think that they can have "green" BS like other states.

He now has a lot of free time. If he wants to read to the children, it is good for him!

Such a waste of time.

I hope this works. It is still unclear how fire trucks and other large trucks will drive around sharp turns and get off at Barnett, west of 45th Street.

I'm sure FDNY has consulted, just like Skillman Lane. But if this is a problem, they should remove some parking spaces. After all, it is always parked vehicles and/or motor vehicles that actually decelerate emergency vehicles. I have never seen a fire truck or ambulance trapped behind a bicycle. If we take emergency response time seriously, we should do everything we can to reduce the number of cars and trucks on the streets.

When Skillman's bike path became good for the first time. Crash reported from Fresh and Save on 51street!

I'm not necessarily against the bike lanes but I want our elected officials to be honest about why they're pushing them. The real purpose of bike lanes is to expand the population of New York City, thereby increasing municipal taxes. This will allow politicians to pay for their bloated bureaucracy-civil servants’ salaries and benefits, pensions, school construction, after-school programs, homelessness initiatives, etc.

How do you think this works? "Oh, look, the bike lane near my building. I think I will have three children now"

Thank you for the easy reply. Allow me to explain. More people means more money to the government-I think this is self-explanatory. How do I know that politicians want more people in this city? One and two family houses on the residential street were demolished and replaced by six or eight new unit houses on the same floor area. Veritable skyscrapers such as Queen Square and Court Square. Scaffolding is all over New York City. Do these sound familiar? Don't worry, politicians want more people. Think of a city with 10, 12, 14 million people, or even more. If all these people were driving around in their cars-it would be a traffic jam, it would be chaos, it would be impossible. Therefore, as the population increases, politicians need a way to prevent car ownership in New York City. You guessed it, this is where the bike lane comes in. In my years, since the introduction of bicycle lanes, I have never seen such a heavy traffic on Skillman Ave. I'm not saying that this is terrible 24/7, but it is very different from the previous bike lanes. That being said, the hustle and bustle of traffic is exactly what politicians want-this will enable a larger population, which will lead to higher tax revenues so that they can develop the government and develop their power.

Are you not so confused now?

JD-You missed an important factor in New York’s overdevelopment, and it was not included in your conspiracy theory, "demand" clearly requires more housing than single-family housing. Politicians are responding to demands, not just ordering more housing to give me more power. Hahaha

thank you for your reply. You made a very good point about housing needs. There is no doubt that the demand for housing in New York City is very high. My concern is that our infrastructure-roads, bridges, sewers, public transportation, etc.-can only withstand more demand.

Additionally, I don't think asking for honesty from our elected officials makes me a conspiracy theorist. We need leaders who can tell us the truth even in politically difficult situations.

As someone who grew up on 51st Street, I can tell you that the new one-way section of 39th Avenue will prevent fire trucks and elevator companies south of Skillman Avenue from reaching certain destinations in the north or east of 39th Avenue. Avenue. Hopefully, they will not lose their lives because they need extra time to deal with emergencies.

Commenters seized the opportunity to refute the false information in Marvin Jeffcoat's column. Can we do the same to fight the anti-bicycle lane false propaganda campaign known as "Queen Street for all"? After suffering a near-personal attack, I will begin.

QS4A-Patricia Dorfman (Patricia Dorfman) has been spreading the same old false information she has done over the years. Despite the low level of participation, it does have an impact on the real world. Last weekend, when I put down my bike for the 5boro bike tour, a neighbor who didn’t wear a mask entered the elevator with me and reprimanded me if the building was burnt down because of “these [email protection] #$ing bike lanes , I will take responsibility." When I asked them where they got this ridiculous argument, they proudly replied that they had seen it on the town secrets. If I am right, this is not a legitimate source, and I will most likely be hit. I checked it and it appears to be a ridiculous review article you published on August 14. No reputable news publication considers it suitable for printing.

Patricia Dorfman: Please stop spreading lies and other lies about the effectiveness of fire safety and life-saving street redesigns! Disgustingly, because of your words, the threat of violence against cyclists in the real world should affect your conscience more seriously than your negative assumptions and assumptions. Not just bike lanes! You seem to be spreading lies to NYCHA residents without suggesting that you might be unwelcome there.

If you think you are a good person, ask yourself why you are actively spreading lies and inciting hatred against your neighbors, then stop! Years later, we, more of your neighbors, those who campaigned for bike lanes, those who voted for candidates you don't like, just ask you to stop. Stop hatred!

How dare you launch such a personality attack? Many, many people viewed this issue in Ms. Dorfman's way and paid tribute to her courage and dedication to tell the truth. you were tricked. Your 100% disregard for people of different faiths is a shocking feature of the cycling community. By the way, your martyrdom posture is untenable here. I have been scolded and insulted more than once, and even been called a lazy, death-loving dinosaur by an extreme fan on your side. When the cyclist ignored all the norms of street travel, I felt physically threatened and forced me to rest in a hurry. When he passed the car I stopped, he even kicked my car with his foot. This is a war between you and your co-religiousists. In my 50-year driving career, nothing like this has ever happened. Please. enough. If you want to attack someone by name, please use your name with dignity. Nausea.

Many, many, many people totally disagree with you. A great way to get to Sunnyside from Jackson Heights is directly below Roosevelt Avenue. It will not disturb thousands of people, they would rather not be full of cyclists. In the past, anyone who spoiled the reputation of others had to have the courage to name themselves. It seems that the younger generation thinks that their methods are superior to the conventions formed by human experience over the centuries. I think this has become the way of the Dodo.

Please specify what Ms. Dorfman is lying about. In addition, since you used her name, you should also use yours.

Ms. Wright, I was referring to her column on 8/14 "Fire Safety Quick Fix", Patricia repeated the lie that the fire truck could not turn left at 51 due to the bicycle lane. This deliberate misinformation is actually an attempt to turn the long-lost debate about the bicycle lane on the north side into one of the debates about bicycle safety and fire safety, for people who don’t want to “burn”. This is absolutely disgusting scarecrow rubbish, in these comments triggered the kind of ignorant violence of my neighbor and the "black-footed lion" barking like a puppy. enough. There is no war: the war is over, the bike is won! It's time to stop lying and hatred.

Thank you for your response. If you calm down, everyone will take you more seriously. I will inform Ms. Dorfman of your objections to her position so that she can respond. However, she, me, and many others will still quote you for lack of integrity, because you cringe behind a pseudonym while slandering a woman who has served the community in multiple identities for so many years. They are too long to be quoted here. .

As far as the end of the "war" is concerned, no. With this offensive argument and despicable strategy, the transportation alternative sends out stupid cyclists who create enemies among those who are ready to cooperate. Cyclists pass through a group of people who despise and hate them. Any strong opposition comes from your group behavior, if there is hatred, it comes from your group, and we will return to its home in May.

Thanks! To be clear-I opposed it very calmly, not only a lie, but the entire Queens street. The cumulative effect of repeated lies over the years has created a culture of hatred far removed from its intended purpose, and gradually penetrated into drunks like my neighbor and nonsense fools like "black-footed lions" who believe in her religiously. I believe Patricia is a lovely person, and she will understand that her actions will have real-world consequences. I hope that I wear clothes for cycling 3-4 times a year not to cause the same discrimination and hatred after she removes the page. Thank you so much for helping to stop the hatred!

For those who don't like cutting blocks into ribbons on every road between Queens and North Avenue, your tone reveals the depth of your hostility. You boil with fear and anger, because you refuse to accept all the evidence before you from someone with the same vision and energy as you but with a lot more experience. You are losing your temper, like an angry little toy poodle rejecting his favorite treat. Sit in your corner and calm yourself down. You make people feel tired.

Stop hatred. Again, although no one is perfect, Ms. Dorfman will carefully check her facts before writing anything. She did not incite hatred. She expressed the fear and frustration of many people in the community about the bicycle lanes being broken into and the clumsy, deaf-mute people deliberately drowning because of the deliberate drowning of the TA representatives in each forum. They took well-trained soldiers to actively interrupt and shout at our community board meetings. They interfered in super-local discussions far away from the community. They used very dismissive and insulting language to respond to each of us. Honest worries. You continue in this situation. People who have lived here all their lives feel alienated from the former strong community. They feel lost and lonely in a long-lost home. If I can afford it, of course I will. Your presence is a constant stimulus. Your method is similar to that of a tyrant. Your remarks are simply ugly. Therefore, please think more carefully about the origin of hatred. It does not appear until someone who has the same idea as you arrives. By the way, my IQ is much higher than average. I have a history of contributing to this community that can be traced back to three generations, and the way I speak and write has been quantified as a "doctorate level." Every time you mention me in a derogatory way, you are proving my point that anger and hatred come from your side.

Blackfootlion, in response to your first attempt at a reasonably worded comment on 9/10 (not 9/8 ad hominem, of course). I apologize for insulting your IQ, and apologize for your original vulnerability due to your failure to argue on the bike lane. With sympathy and sternness, I invite you to consider the simple reality that you are completely wrong about the source of the continued anger and hatred of cyclists in our community. Considering that QS4A was established to directly counter the neighbor’s successful organization of bicycle lanes, it tried to mark them as malicious outsiders, or as you said, "trained soldiers" and "constant stimulation", but it was unsuccessful. Consider Ms. Wright's stubborn admission that there is still a war against "stupid cyclists" who "hate and despise" them as they ride through the community. Regardless of whether you choose to accept it or not, despite trying to light the torch with a gas lamp, the war started by QS4A is over.

My personal advice to you is to overcome your pain and participate in the community in a positive way. If there were no people like you and Ms. Dorfman, this community would not be what it is today. But it is still hurt by the pain, division and hatred sowed by QS4A. The community misses your positive energy, and the community can forgive you for the illegal behavior that has gone astray strangely in the past few years. Let it go, go back to building goodwill, and you will find that they can not only be used as crutches to suspend the argument of failure. It's time to stop the war, stop resentment, stop hatred.

Stop hatred. You continue to insult and ridicule those who disagree with you. This is a very bad form. You continue to turn a deaf ear to the veracity of your opponent's opinion.

Contrary to what you seem to believe, no one here wants to be the main route for bicycles. Thousands of us exist outside your circle of believers. Thousands of people have never read "Queen Street". Thousands of people have never interacted with the official leadership of the community. In fact, when we appeared on the radar screen of politicians, many people regretted it because we were not as rich as other communities, so we wanted to make a new face. we do not have. Swipe, some support will be welcomed by hibernation, but things are running very well.

The police were very cautious about their long-term plans and deceived us. They did not let us understand their vision until it was too late to get involved. The policemen whom we donate and trust are the most despicable traitors. In the end, it was clear that they intended to eliminate all grassroots activities that existed before they arrived. Some people say they learned that one of our leaders said roughly, "Nothing will happen here unless I want it to happen." It is chilling. One of our leaders spread the word that someone is "evil," but he was talking to people who knew the subject of his gossip in order to have a long-term record of good deeds. Of course, in front of him, no one disagreed, but many people shook their heads and reported the slander to the target.

We are living a fulfilling and completely satisfying self-directed life outside of your frame of reference. Before the massive changes brought about by gentrification, many people preferred it. We are self-organized, cooperative, and self-directed adults. We have never been forced to follow a plan that no one here dreams or wants. We have a vision for the future and we know how we want to achieve it.

I personally know a person who is very active in the community and serves the community. Because this is his home, he suddenly bought a house in Pennsylvania because he felt rudely abandoned. Another woman who had lived in the same neighborhood for more than 70 years and served on the same local committee that her parents did was alienated by gentrification and despised the "stupid bike path she and her husband and adult daughter were looking for." "North Carolina. None of them interacted with local management agencies, nor did they read "Queen Street for All". Therefore, it is incorrect for you to insist that the source of the information you posted is responsible for the "hatred" you see.

The person you devalued for drinking and reading Facebook posts that you disagree with is hardly enough to prove that a slanderous, defamatory article was published against a highly regarded member of this community. You will almost deprive this writer of his freedom of speech, which will indeed make you very low among American patriots.

Please look outside your bubble. These changes have hurt people deeply. They can no longer work comfortably here, which breaks their hearts. They are extremely unlikely to join the efforts of those who alienated them in the first place.

In addition, please do not use derogatory tone in your communication with me. This is disrespectful and will destroy your argument. It becomes sick as any serious adult.

Blackfootlion, I think what we have here is more than just disagreements on the bike lanes. Thank you for sharing some of your life experiences, which are definitely different from mine and more heartbreaking than mine. My suggestion to reconnect with the community is completely sincere. People can put aside their differences. It's not too late.

To understand more fully what drives your beliefs, I realize that arguing point by point will not help, so let us imagine a reality where everything you say to yourself is 100% correct. Please take into account that the continuation of online activities is only to commemorate the injury, unreasonable and cruel abandonment of political institutions. However, if the result of online activities is the widespread hatred of a large number of neighbors, then stopping the hatred is not slandering or infringing on anyone’s First Amendment rights, it is the right thing to do.

QS4A is certainly not initiating an offline hatred of cyclists, but it does organize it cynically and catalyze it into a disastrous war. As long as it continues to publish it online, it will definitely instigate it. I am not trying to belittle your experience, nor am I insulting you by pointing out you were wrong-because even if you are right, I will say the same! It's time to stop the hatred!

This will not work. The car belongs to the street. We are not a European country. We are built for cars, so every street should cater to this.

Your contempt for the opinions of others signifies that you are an intolerant paranoid.

For motor transportation, the intersections of 39th Ave and Barnett Ave, 48th ST and Woodside Ave, and the intersections of Barnett Ave and 48th ST are very complicated and prone to misunderstandings. I think these simplifications will improve overall security.

This is the worst. A complete waste of taxes will only benefit a few people. How about investing in social projects or outreach projects or better housing? However, we cannot build a "bicycle avenue" for a group of trendy people of pansy in the sun. It’s not surprising that JVB’s clown supports this guy and can’t leave yet, and it’s sold out. Thankfully, he does not represent the beautiful queen.

If you use homophobic slander to hate your neighbor, then you are definitely not one of the "beauties of Queens."

Do you know what is a complete waste of taxes? There are nearly 3 million on-street parking spaces in New York City, most of which are free for car owners. In a city where most families do not even have a car, this is a crazy charity for people who use the most dangerous and environmentally destructive means of transportation in our city.

On-street parking is not free. Car owners pay license and inspection fees, registration fees, a large amount of gasoline taxes, tolls, insurance premiums, and many other surcharges, all of which go to the city and state vaults. (Not to mention ticket revenue for parking and moving violations.)

The owner pays the license fee, annual inspection fee, and registration fee

What is that... 80 dollars in total

All these projects I mentioned add up to more than $80 per year. But even if that’s all, it’s still $80 more than any cyclist would pay for their share on all these roads that now have dedicated bike lanes.

We support countless small businesses related to maintaining the transportation of our choice. In addition, how many people do you see shopping in hypermarkets in the city because they don't have a car to take it home, whether it's private or rented? Whether you like it or not, people who ride in cars have made great contributions to the economic life of this vast city.

Don't even use the bike lane correctly! Or not at all! ! !

Put it on the north side, don’t damage our south hood, we need to go from our work to the street parking in the middle of the night.

It will help if you commute backwards.

"All of this has to do with traffic calmness." What calmness? The traffic has been "calm". I have been driving on these streets, and they are the quietest streets I have ever driven in New York. It is not bad. Why repair?

Because they are lying. Their goal is to get more people into New York without improving public transportation. All this is driven by REBNY and the politicians they own. It's about them becoming rich. That's it.

As a cyclist, I will not ride any of these stupid "bicycle lanes". They are too narrow. I ride at a speed limit of 25 mph in the city that allows me to better blend in with the traffic on the normal lane, and there is no problem.

I am not Chuck Schumer, I ride a bicycle. Everything Di Blasio has done is destroying the city.

Go to Florida! Less than two feet wide! ! !

How wide is your bike? ? ?

I live near Queens Road. I drove to Jamaica from the exit of the 59th St. Bridge. If I saw 5 cyclists on the bike path, that would be too much! New York City is a city that walks and drives. Cyclists don’t need to pay anything-no license plates, no inspections or registrations, no parking fees, red lights and stop signs, no fines, and you can drive recklessly if you ride a bicycle. If the person is injured, the driver will be blamed.

agree. Renaming the subway station is cute. This kind of NIMBY nonsense that makes neighbors hate each other is neither cute nor funny. It is divisive and scary for neighbors. Patricia Dorfman, you are well informed and hurt people.

If you want to slander someone, please use your own name. If not, you have proved that you are a coward.

Try this: stand on the sidewalk next to the Skillman bike lane and count the number of bikes/scooters etc. that use these lanes during peak hours in 15 minutes. to be honest. Count and tell us what you found.

I bet you won't do this. You won't like what you see: many people use these lanes every day. And this number is still growing. This is good for communities, cities and the planet.

Too bad, sunnyside does not have Citibank to use these lanes. That would be a huge advantage. Please pay attention to the jvb photo with the paint crew.

Fortunately, JVB's political career has finally reached a well-deserved end. He can go back and pile the books on the shelf of his leaky boondoggle LIC library branch.

Just throw it there-the word "bicycle avenue" makes it sound like a huge road, just for bicycles and nothing else. All that happened was that a slide was removed and a bike lane was added.

Taxiways are dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists, so this is a positive factor. I now look forward to visiting Sunnyside more frequently.

What is a slide?

You can sell a block to the Skillman Ave. Bike Path.
