SALT LAKE CITY — A strong storm that rolled through northern Utah on Thursday evening caused damage in Salt Lake City.

Scaffolding was ripped from the side of a building under construction on 1300 South between 300 West and West Temple.

Salt Lake City police said roads in the area were closed for a "considerable amount of time" before reopening Friday morning. Residents and drivers were originally told to avoid the area during the clean up.

“You can see it just littered the street with a bunch of debris in this area, so there’s a lengthy clean up process, fortunately no one was hurt in this situation,“ said Ofc. Brent Weisberg with the Salt Lake Police Department. “You know this is a really busy part of Salt Lake City. This is the Ballpark part of the Salt Lake neighborhood, we’re right along the TRAX platform here and the TRAX line, so really you know this is very lucky no one was hurt in this situation.”

No one was injured due to the collapse.

The Utah Transit Authority closed the Ballpark Station near the collapse, with trains being turned around at Central Pointe and 900 South.

“Out of an abundance of caution UTA did close the TRAX line,” Weisberg said. “It is an inconvenience to people who rely on TRAX to get to and from where they’re going, but they have put a bus bridge in now and so that is hopefully going to get people where they need to go although a slight delay.”
