The National Museum of Bermuda [NMB] Commissioner’s House-built in the 1820s-is undergoing restoration and cosmetic surgery.

A spokesperson said: "The scaffolding has been set up, and local construction workers are protecting and restoring the balcony and the 19th century cast iron pillars and the fascia of the commissioner’s mansion. This work will ensure this historic house [build] In the mid-1820s, it was the first prefabricated cast iron framed house built in the Western Hemisphere], which can be preserved for future generations.

"After the 2014-16 hurricane, the museum carried out extensive repairs, repairs and reinforcements on the roof and cast iron truss frame of the Commissioner’s residence to prevent future storm damage.

"Now, attention has turned to balconies, historic cast iron pillars and repairing decades of salt, wind and rain damage. This is part of NMB's commitment to protect its historic buildings and property.

"Commissioner's House is still open-including the latest exhibition Traces and Pastimes by local artist Gherdai Hassell-while restoration work is underway. However, there will be no access to the upper balcony. Museum staff will continue to provide progress updates and announce any changes to the house visit .

"Bermuda National Museum is open from 9 am to 5 pm in spring, summer and autumn [last admission is at 4 pm]. "Winter opening hours are from 10 am to 5 pm [last admission is in the afternoon 4 o'clock], starting from December 1st. Except on December 25, the museum is open all year round. "
