Contractor halts operations at construction site after scaffolding collapse – QC gov’t – Manila Bulletin

The Quezon City government on Wednesday, Oct. 5, said the private contractor working on the city’s housing project where the scaffolding collapsed and killed one worker and injured several others has halted its operations to give way to the investigation being conducted by police authorities.

The local government said A dela Cruz Builders has stopped its operations in the area while investigations on the incident are ongoing.

According to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), the incident happened at around 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the construction site along Sto. Cristo Street, in Barangay Balingasa, where a metal scaffolding suddenly collapsed and fell on the workers.

One construction worker, identified as Francis Anzures, 45, a resident of Barangay Baesa in the city, was confirmed dead, while 10 others – Jerick Medino, 20; Mark Dave Asis, 21; Reynante Mandak, 50; Junrey Acoymo, 38; Jayson Rebalga, 27; Jerald Silvio, 20; Jorie Modesto, 40; Emmil Medino, 25; Rainwick Gallo, 39, all construction workers; and Renato Gallo, 49, the foreman – all sustained minor injuries.

They were rushed to the Quezon City General Hospital where Anzures was declared dead-on-arrival while the other victims were given medical treatment.

In a statement on Tuesday, the city government said the private contractor already extended assistance to the victims. The city also provided help to the families of the victims.

A thorough investigation is being conducted to determine if there are lapses in the observance of standard construction protocols and to recommend measures to ensure that such incidents will not happen again.

The Quezon City government said the injured victims have been treated and released from the hospital.
