Singapore-When a man injured his leg while working on a 70-meter tower crane, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (Dart) and a group of firefighters must find the safest way to get him off .

Their final plan took more than two hours to complete, but it turned out to be a wonderful method because they took the workers safely to the ground in only five minutes.

In an interview with The Straits Times on Tuesday (November 16), 45-year-old Lieutenant Ahmed Feizal Abdul Hanan was the commander of Dart Rota who oversaw the operation. He said: " The team performed well that day because they conducted an assessment and everyone completed their tasks. This led to a good plan and a successful rescue mission.

"The information provided by each of them is very important, because without it, we cannot plan well," he added.

Last Friday, Dart experts from Kallang Fire Department and SCDF firefighters from Central Fire Department, Lt Ahmad Faizal (Lt Ahmad Faizal) and ST conducted a rescue operation at a construction site on Beach Road chat.

Sergeant No. 3 Keith Lye and a firefighter were the first to reach the injured worker. He climbed the cat ladder with a 5 kg medical bag and continued to treat him while maintaining a stable appearance. Upper-the wide platform of the crane.

He said: "The worker was groaning in pain. There was no open wound, so we suspected that his right tibia was fractured. We need to bandage and fix the injury to prevent further deterioration."

The two dart experts then took anchoring devices, various high-altitude rescue equipment and a 200-meter-long rope weighing about 15 kilograms upstairs to begin the task of lowering the injured man. They fixed the rope to the crane, and Dart experts on the ground installed a battery-powered power ascender on it-a device that can help rescuers ascend and descend, as well as move equipment up and down.

Finding landing sites for rescuers and workers at the construction site is another obstacle that needs to be overcome.

Dart Division Commander 2 Warrant Lieutenant Azmir Ali Ameer Ali said: “Choosing a landing site is very tricky because there are scaffolding around the crane. We think the top (next side) of the multi-storey car park in Shaw Tower is the most viable option because it is vertically below , Even if we had to clean up part of the 2.5-meter-high scaffolding there.

"We asked the construction workers to remove the scaffolding, which took about 35 minutes."

As the landing area was cleared, Dart expert Warrant Officer 1 Muhammad Umar Al-Siddiq Abdul Rahman, along with the workers fixed on the rescue stretcher, descended with ropes, passing several steel beams protruding from the crane structure along the way.

34-year-old WO1 Umar said: “At this time, the injured person was facing outwards. He saw this from a height, so I must continue to assure him that he is safe and that we have been by his side and he will live.”

The unidentified worker was safely taken to Singapore General Hospital.

The entire rescue operation lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes, and a total of 25 civil defense force personnel participated, including ambulance personnel.

Lieutenant Ahmed Feizal said: "We are fortunate that there is no rain or wind, because this will make the rescue more dangerous.

"Although different operations have different risks, we focus on training, teamwork and safety to reduce these risks."
