This case study illustrates the adjustment of students with disabilities in the second stage.

Savannah is in third grade and has sensory processing disabilities. She is in the mainstream classroom of an elementary school.

Savannah has sensory processing difficulties. She has sensory aversion and sensory sensitivity. She has good gross motor skills, but has difficulties in fine motor skills. She received support from the teacher's assistants in self-regulation, handling sensitivities, and supporting her social skills.

Savannah attends weekly occupational therapy courses to help her develop and strengthen her fine motor skills and develop appropriate strategies to meet her sensory needs. It takes longer for her to master new concepts and skills, but then she spends a lot of time perfecting these skills. She has good hearing, which means that she can hear the background and environmental level very loudly, but has difficulty in listening, processing auditory information and understanding instructions. She faces challenges in executive functions, including emotional control, organization, and task initiation.

Savannah is constantly looking for deep pressure from objects and/or companions, and shows a high degree of response to specific textures. She is easily distracted and often fidgets. She beats objects on her legs and shook her body all day long.

Savannah is visiting and working hard to achieve all KLA's second phase results. Savannah outside school participates in judo and small track and field sports.

Through the collaborative course planning process, Savannah's support team, including her full-time medical team, has determined that she needs to make additional adjustments to all subjects. In particular, she needs opportunities to satisfy her sensory needs throughout the day. The following goals were set for Savannah:

Using the information and decisions in the collaborative course planning process, Savannah's teachers consider making appropriate adjustments to Savannah to complete classwork.
