Safety warning after scaffolding fell into the river-SIMIAN

RISQS (Railway Industry Supplier Qualification Program) recently issued a safety notice following an accident in Glasgow. After the accident, a scaffolding contractor was working on a scaffold erected on a water structure, but fell into the river below middle.

The scaffolder had been removing the pipes and scaffolding erected on the structure between the South Wharf and the river bank. At that time, a dropper and pipe joint he was standing on became loose, causing him to fall into the river itself together with the pipe. His fall was not prevented because his lanyard was fixed to the same dropper.

The scaffolding was quickly pulled out of the water by the rescue boat that had been on standby, and was dispatched quickly after the incident. He was taken to the hospital through emergency services and was discharged on the same day. Investigations are currently underway to determine the cause.
