According to UNESCO, the Mausoleum of Oljatu is an important link and important monument in the development of Islamic architecture in Central and Western Asia. UNESCO said: “Excavations in the 790-hectare site of the Orgiatu Mausoleum revealed more remains of the old city. A large part of the site retains its archaeological features. As the ancient capital of the Ilhan dynasty, Sultaniye is an extraordinary testimony to the history of Iran in the 13th and 14th centuries."

Oljaytu is the great-grandson of Hulegu, the founder of the Il-Khanid dynasty. He is a Mongolian ruler. After getting involved in various religions, he adopted the Shia name Mohammed Khodabandeh.

The property is named after the town of Soltanieh ("City of Sultan"), which was the capital of the Persian Ilhan Dynasty (a branch of the Mongolian dynasty) in the 14th century.
