The award-winning production company Deadman will stage the first in a series of performances, telling the most notorious crime story in modern island legends-the Tamsui Five.

Ten years from the initial conviction, the "Freshwater Five" tells the story of five people involved in one of the largest drug trafficking cases in the history of the Isle of Wight. Beginning on the eve of the appeal in 2021, the stage play by the Isle of Wight-born playwright Liam Patrick Harrison is a detailed and rich theatrical investigation of the tragic downfall of men.

Through spectacular storytelling, verbatim records and creative stage art, the actors on the island explore historical precedents, ocean myths, the British judicial system and the sunken/unknown stories of coastal communities.

Freshwater Five is a regional research and development project funded by the Arts Council of England and Mike Howley Trust, and supported by The Quay Arts Center and The Ventnor Exchange. With the help of Ventnor Exchange's inspiring Brave Island program, Deadman launched an open casting and contacted some of the best talent in the region.

Future plans for the project include a trip to the south of neighboring coastal communities.
